Wearing the right colors makes a huge difference in your appearance. The wrong colors will accentuate your flaws and will make you look washed out. The right colors will bring out your best features and make you look striking.
Take the quiz below to find out which colors are going to make you look and feel amazing! Let’s find the right colors for you!
Find Your Color Undertone Quiz
The colors you should be wearing are going to be determined by whether your skin has warm undertones or cool undertones. So let’s start with a quiz to figure out which one you have.
Grab a piece of paper and number it 1-6. For each answer, record either a W (for warm) or a C (for cool).
1. Color of your veins:
W – If the veins on the inside your wrists are green
C – If the veins on the inside your wrists are blue
2. Yellow & Orange:
W – If Orange or Yellow look great on you
C – If Orange or Yellow make you look washed out
W – Gold jewelry looks more flattering against your skin
C – Silver jewelry looks more flattering against your skin
4. Sun exposure:
W – Skin tans easily
C – Skin burns easily
5. Eye color:
W – Dark or Warm eyes (brown, black/dark grey, gold flecks, hazel, amber)
C -Light eyes (grey, blue, green)
6. Eye color:
W – Hair has warm undertones Black, brown or red hair with warm undertones (reddish, golden, orange, or strawberry) Your hair can be black to blond, but what are the undertones? Are they more brassy, or orange?
C – Hair has cool undertones, black brown blond hair (ash, violet, silver, cool, pale) black to blond, but what are the undertones?
Total up your score. Whichever letter you have the most of, this determines whether your skin tone is cool (C) or warm (W).
If you scored high in C’s, or “cool”, then you are going to look better in colors that have a blue undertone.
If you scored high in W’s, or “warm”, then you are going to look better in colors that have a yellow undertone.
If you are pretty even with the letters, you may just be one of those who gets away with being able to wear a variety of shades!
Color Wheel – Warm Vs Cool Colors:
Some colors aren’t as cut and dried, depending on the shade. Both types can wear green, but the difference is that green for a warm person should be olive, but on a cool person should be forest green or kelly green. Red for a warm person would have more yellow undertones, like a tomato red, but on a cool person, they would need a red with more blue undertones, like a magenta.
What about Neutrals?
People with cool undertones will look best in black, white, and grey.
People with warm undertones will look best in brown, ivory, and tan.
Which Color Jewelry is Best for You?
Choosing the right color of jewelry will look so much more flattering against your skin. It will make the jewelry itself seem much richer as well.
For warm tones, stick to gold jewelry, and cool tones will want to lean towards silver or white gold jewelry.
Rules of Makeup Colors
For mascara and eyeliner, people typically prefer to use black for cool tones, and brown for warm tones.
For blushes and lipstick, warm tones would be corals and terra cotta. Cool tones should stick to pinks and bluish-reds.
Eye shadow may be the exception.
When it comes to eye shadow, staying on the same side of the color wheel as your eye color is always going to be complimentary. However, for a more dramatic look, you can choose a color on the opposite side to make your eye color really pop. Sports teams use colors on the opposite ends of the color wheels because it makes them more noticeable. A woman with blue eyes can really bring out her eye color using a copper colored eye shadow, or blue eye shadow for a brown eye. Just make sure you keep it subtle.
So if you want to really play up one feature, keep it small, and choose just one. If you go with a dramatic eye, keep your lips neutral, and vice versa.
Taking the extra few minutes to consider the undertones in your skin is going to really make a big difference in how you look in your clothes. With all of this said, know that you should wear the colors that you feel most attracted to, because if you are loving the colors you are wearing, then you are going to feel most confident, and confidence is a woman’s best accessory!
